Cleansing anyone?

I should be starting a herbal body-cleansing program within a few days. I’m now just waiting for the packet to arrive! I looked at many different products but decided to give the one from DrNatura a try!

I have being wanting to do a body cleansing (detoxification) for a long time now and today I decided it was the day to buy the program. So I placed the order! Today was the day because I have been feeling so completely drained of energy lately, that I can’t imagine getting pregnant with the level of energy I’m experiencing, I don’t think I should try to get pregnant feeling so awful like I have been lately and the cleansing is supposed to help to increase energy levels. So we shall see if it will help or not.

I also have been finding more and more information everyday on the importance of cleansing your body if you are trying to get pregnant. “Cleansing is an important part of preparing for pregnancy. All the toxins that you ingest, drink, breathe in, and absorb through your skin end up in your liver and gastrointestinal (GI) tract. If they are not expelled from your colon and liver as quickly as possibly, they can wreak havoc on your reproductive and other systems.” (puristat.com).
So I decided that I have more to gain than lose by trying this before my next FET in September! If this does help me improve my general well being, it may help me to deal with all the emotional and physical strain that a fertility treatment cycle brings to ones life.

The herbs from the product are designed to remove dangerous chemicals like mercury and lead from the body’s organs and bloodstream, as well as parasites, by cleansing the GI and hopefully leading to better health. I just hope I don’t see any parasites after using the bathroom. That would definitely freak me out!

I will be doing it for two months and I should be done a couple weeks before my FET starts in September!
I’m planning to post about my cleansing experience here!

Can I do it?

I want to lose some weight and start exercising before my next fertility treatment in September. I would like to lose 20 lbs but anything at this point would be a gain, or should I say a loss?

The thing is I don’t seem to be able to get motivated enough to get myself going! My favorite thing to do is walk, but it has been so hot here in Florida…. We have completely skipped spring this year. We went from winter straight into summer and that is a big shame to me, spring is my favorite season. But this spring has been so hot, uncomfortable, and lets not forget there is a daily threat of nagging storms.

One thing about living in Florida is that it never does just rain. We never get a nice calming, soothing rain. No, no, no, don’t even hope for it because you will never see it. We just get freaking scary storms and when is hot like it has been, storms pop up from nowhere unexpectedly at any time. So going for walks is not what I want to be doing!

For Christmas I got an exercise bike but have just used it a few times. Exercise equipment and exercise DVDs, I find them to be boring so it is hard to get motivated so they are at the moment helping to clutter my house.

I don’t really like to go to the gym so I will not consider it as an option. I know, I know it is sounding really a lot like excuses, isn’t it? (No Kidding!). I think I’m a lost cause, don’t you? Well I’m not ready to give up yet, so I’m still looking for something that could possibly work for me. Yesterday I found a product that could possibly be the one and I’m considering buying it. Have you heard about Wii Fit before? It is some kind of interactive game. It is looking promising so I will do some more research on it.

Spring is in the air!

Do you like gardening? How about planting some mineral-rich, vitamin-rich herbs this year?

Anyone trying to conceive should nourish and strengthen their body with nutritive foods…. Adding fresh herbs to our food is a great and easy way to increase nutritional value to the food we eat without too much additional effort, and also as an added bonus herbs definitely will add some wonderful flavor to our foods.

I think this will be a great activity to do with my daughter. She is 6 years old and I’m sure she will really enjoy this. She is also old enough to grasp the idea that plants have different needs such as for light, water, etc. I also intend to use the herbs to make different ethnic dishes such as Mediterranean, Mexican, etc…. That will be a great way to try new dishes, improve some of the old ones and along the way introduce different cultures to my child using food as the media…. What great ways to enjoy the herbs we will be helping to grow!

I’m planning on sharing my gardening experiences here. Planting…. watching them grow…. harvesting…. putting it to good use (recipes) and storing the herbs.

Wish me luck!!

Here is a list of the herbs that I’m planning to grow this year:

Basil (one of my favorites) promotes circulation to the reproductive organs and is an excellent source of vitamin K and a very good source of iron, calcium and vitamin A. In addition, basil is a good source of dietary fiber, manganese, magnesium, vitamin C and potassium.

Used in a variety of foods as a seasoning but is know best as the main ingredient in pesto (pesto recipe*). Pesto can be served with pasta, or over baked potatoes, or spread over toasted baguette slices.

Parsley is an excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin K. It is a good source of iron and folate.

Parsley can be used in many different recipes, including salads, tomato sauces, vegetable sautés, grilled fish and chicken.

Sage contains a variety of volatile oils, flavonoids (including apigenin, diosmetin, and luteolin), and phenolic acids.

Sage can be used in many different recipes, including salads, tomato sauces, omelets and frittatas to name a few!

Thyme is an excellent source of iron, manganese, and vitamin K. It is also a very good source of calcium and a good source of dietary fiber.

Thyme is a wonderful addition to bean, egg and vegetable dishes.

Peppermint is an excellent source of manganese, vitamin C and vitamin A, good source of dietary fiber, folate, iron, magnesium, and calcium, vitamin B2 and also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins B2, potassium and copper.

Enjoy a cup of fresh peppermint tea or add some chopped peppermint leaves to soups that are tomato-based.

Oregano has demonstrated strong anti-oxidant capacity and oregano is an excellent source of vitamin K and a very good source of iron, manganese and dietary fiber. In addition, oregano is a good source of calcium, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin C and omega-3 fatty acids.

Oregano is the perfect herb to use with Mediterranean and Mexican cuisines.

Cilantro/Coriander is considered both an herb and a spice since both its leaves and its seeds are used as a seasoning condiment.
Coriander seeds contain an unusual array of phytonutrients. They are a very good source of dietary fiber and a good source of iron, magnesium and manganese.

Fresh cilantro leaves are usually eaten more frequently than the seeds since they are one of the main ingredients in salsa, along with tomatoes, onions and green chilies.

*Pesto Recipe (Fresh Basil)

Ingredients

* 2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed
* 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
* 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
* 1/3 cup pine nuts or walnuts
* 3 medium sized garlic cloves, minced
* Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Making it

1 - Combine the basil in with the pine nuts, then pulse a few times in a food processor. Add the garlic, pulse a few times more.

2 - Slowly add the olive oil in a constant stream while the food processor is on. Stop to scrape down the sides of the food processor with a rubber spatula. Add the grated cheese and pulse again until blended. Add a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Makes 1 cup.

Serve with pasta, or over baked potatoes, or spread over toasted baguette slices.
